(PRWEB) August 19, 2006 -- Professional speaker, author, and literary agent Greg Dinkin went to Las Vegas in late July for the World Series of Poker to network with his celebrity clients: supermodel Cindy Margolis, Celebrity Poker Showdown host Phil Gordon, and poker champion Amarillo Slim Preston. Dinkin entered one tournament, the Seven Stud Hi-Lo World Series of Poker event, and outlasted 776 players to take home the second-place purse of $102,542.

Dinkin, a columnist for Card Player magazine, literally wrote the book on how to succeed in business by using poker skills. The Poker MBA, published by Random House, was based on the premise that Dinkin learned more about business from playing poker professionally than he did from business school. He leveraged the skills he learned at the poker table to co-found Venture Literary, a literary management and production company. In six years, the company has sold more than one hundred forty titles to major publishers and has films in development with Tobey Maguire (Warner Bros.) and Nicolas Cage (Saturn Films). In selling projects and negotiating deals, Dinkin relies on the skills he learned as a poker player, such as reading tells, measuring risk and reward, and employing game theory.

Dinkin is a professional speaker who delivers keynote speeches and seminars on how to use poker skills to succeed in business. By walking in the shoes of others—a key component of his book The Poker MBA—and understanding how they think and learn, Dinkin is effective at making people better: better at business, sales, strategy, negotiating, and poker. As poker boom has taken off, many of his speeches have included a poker tutorial and running poker tournaments. By immersing business people in poker, he’s able to demonstrate how business—like poker—relies on making good decisions and remaining unemotional while ignoring the short-term outcomes (like when your pocket aces get cracked by a pair of deuces and you’re tempted to go on “tilt”). His clients include the Young President’s Organization, Legg Mason, The Cornell Club, Eclipsys software, and Reed Smith law firm.
