San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 23, 2006 -- The best is yet to come as singer and recording artist Russ Lorenson (http://www.russlorenson.com) honors the legendary Tony Bennett in his new show, "Benedetto/Blessed: A Tribute to the Life and Music of Tony Bennett." With musical direction by renowned jazz artist Kelly Park and written by Lorenson, "Benedetto/Blessed" premieres July 30th in San Francisco, and from there will play in select cities throughout California and the East coast. The show was created, in part, to honor Mr. Bennett’s 80th birthday, which he will celebrate August 3, 2006.

Frank Sinatra once called Mr. Bennett “the best singer in the business.” In tribute to Mr. Bennett, whose birth name translates to “blessed” in Italian, and his successful career spanning over five decades, Lorenson will perform an array of the crooner’s hits in the warm and husky style of the star, including “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” “Fly Me To The Moon,” “Because of You” and “The Shadow of Your Smile.”

“I find great inspiration in Mr. Bennett’s music and artistic vision,” says Lorenson. “The Great American Songbook has had no greater champion, and I am honored to be singing Mr. Bennett’s greatest hits.”

Russ Lorenson is currently performing "Benedetto/Blessed" in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. The show pays tribute to the legendary Tony Bennett with Lorenson performing a variety of Mr. Bennett’s most popular songs. The show is musically directed by Kelly Park and written by Lorenson.

Lorenson’s last cabaret show, "A Little Travelin’ Music," played to sold-out audiences on both coasts, including San Francisco's legendary Empire Plush Room and The Hideaway Room at Helen’s in New York City. His debut CD, of the same name, was released in May 2006 on the LML Music label (http://www.lmlmusic.com ) and features songs from his cabaret show and includes duets with special guests Shawn Ryan and Klea Blackhurst. Lorenson’s second CD, "What I Want For Christmas," will hit music stores in September 2006.

"Benedetto, Blessed: A Tribute to the Life and Music of Tony Bennett" plays:
July 30, Kelly’s of Alameda, Alameda, CA
August 5, The Rainbow Room at The Depot Restaurant, Napa, CA
August 8-9, The Empire Plush Room, San Francisco, CA
August 11-12 & 18-19, Sterling’s Upstairs, Los Angeles, CA
October 6-8, Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts, Walnut Creek, CA
October 13-14 & 21, The Hideaway Room at Helen’s, New York, NY
...with more dates to come. Visit http://www.russlorenson.com/tour for more information.

About Russ Lorenson

Since his breakout club debut, Lorenson has quickly established a reputation as one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s leading interpreters of jazz standards. As a singer, he is equally at home whether entertaining a concert hall audience or performing in the more intimate cabaret setting. With comparisons to Tony Bennett, Mel Tormé, and Chet Baker, Lorenson has a voice one savors and remembers.

In recognition of his solid and sophisticated musical vocabulary, Talkin’Broadway.com called Russ “an elegant performer who has faultless musical taste and vocal phrasing. He has a voice that is reminiscent of some of the great singers like Tony Bennett, Chet Baker and a little of Mel Tormé.” The Los Angeles Times said that he brings “a supple voice and strong sense of...
