Ayr, Scotland (PRWEB) November 1, 2006 -- LockLizard has launched the latest release of their secure PDF product, Lizard Safeguard for DRM management.

With even more features and an enhanced security and usability environment, Lizard Safeguard version 2.5 ensures LockLizard remains as the number one choice for PDF Digital Rights Management software.

LockLizard have dropped the use of Acrobat Reader for rendering of PDF content, increasing the usability and security of the system. LockLizard's CEO, Ken Briggs, commented "Getting users to download a 20MB+ viewer (Adobe Acrobat) just to view protected PDF documents was just not feasible. Whilst many users have Adobe Acrobat installed, we find a lot of users do not. In addition, our research leads us to believe that interoperating with Acrobat reader may expose us to security risks that are not always under our control. We have therefore redeveloped our secure viewer so as not to rely on external environments that we are not in charge of, and that were not designed with security in mind."

Ironically, LockLizard noted, Adobe have also recently dropped Acrobat as their secure PDF viewer platform for the upcoming secure ebook offering, Digital Editions, which was announced at ten times the price of Lizard Safeguard for a perpetual license.

One of the main new features for publishers is watermarking on viewing and printing. You can now have an image, custom text, and system data (date/time, user name and email address) displayed when a user prints and/or views your documents. This is a much more satisfactory approach than working with degraded printing, as user information can be displayed to deter photocopying, and the use of moiré images can be used to ensure that photocopying produces extremely poor quality copies.

Other features include support of 200MB files, and a number of new DRM enforcing security controls. These include the prevention of a wide range of third party screen grabbers, and print to file/image drivers that might enable users to obtain unauthorized copies of protected documents.

For a full list of features please see Lizard Safeguard PDF Security overview

Free 15 day evaluation copies can be downloaded from the LockLizard web site - Download PDF Digital Rights Management software

About Lizard Safeguard

Controls check how documents are used, by whom, for how long, and what can be done with them. Pricing starts from $2495 for a subscription license.

Ayr, Scotland (PRWEB) June 20, 2006 -- LockLizard Protector has launched to show users that it is finally time to ditch the useless password mechanisms that have been “protecting” web site portals, intranets and extranets for the last 20 years. Whilst no one is under any illusion that passwords can be simply shared with others and only provide protection against casual observers, password protection has been in force in most companies as the de-facto standard. Yet what security does it actually provide?

The answer is a false sense of security. How do you know if a password you have given a user has not been given to others (either knowingly or unintentionally)? If the password has not been compromised, how do you know the content itself has not been copied and saved to a new location? The answer is simply, that you don’t. Whilst some systems track the IP address of the logged in user, users often log on with dynamically allocated IP addresses or sit behind a corporate firewall that only divulges the IP address of the firewall itself. So it is hardly making the best of a bad situation to begin with.

Assuming you could solve the disclosing of passwords and the control of content, password are one huge management overhead as the number one request for helpdesk support is due to lost passwords. Not to mention, keeping track to begin with of all users and their passwords.

However, there is now a simple answer to intranet, extranet and web portal protection with the launch of LockLizard Protector. Web administrators can now move into the 21st century with a system that not only does not rely on passwords for its protection but that also controls what authorized users can do with the content they have been allowed to view and for how long.

Complete granular control over individual pages, images, flash, etc. (rather than full access to a specific area of a site as in password protection) is controlled by the web administrator. There is no need to have separate web areas for different groups of users as content can be protected for different users and groups of users no matter where it is stored. Who views content, when it expires (if ever), and if it can be printed (and if so, for how many copies) is completely under the administrators control.

Protector completely supercedes weak password mechanisms by implementing US Government strength encryption and PKI based authentication. There are no passwords to enter, forget, manage, or pass onto others. And whilst LockLizard Protector is based on PKI, publishers are not involved with issuing PKI keys or services, or any of the outrageously complex setup and costs associated with PKI implementation.

Protector encrypts files locally on the web administrators computer. They are never accessible by LockLizard. Users and access to content is managed with a simple to use web-based administration system.

Protector controls the use of a wide range of file types – HTML, HTM, JPG, GIF, TIF, PNG, TXT, CSV, SWF (Flash). It even has built-in PDF to HTML and DOC to HTML converters so that you can protect your existing PDF and Word documents too.

LockLizard Protector entry level pricing is just $3495 for a subscription license, with perpetual and own server licenses available.
Ayr, Scotland (PRWEB) June 15, 2006 -- LockLizard Protector has been specifically designed to stop elearning courses from being pirated. It prevents unauthorized users from accessing course content, and controls what authorized users can do with it (copy, share, print for example) and for how long.

“Corporate e-learning is one of the fastest-growing sectors within the education market," says KPMG Consulting. "Huge benefits will accrue when content flows seamlessly - often over mobile networks - throughout industry value chains." IDC forecast that the global e-learning market is worth some $23bn. Gartner says: "The e-learning market is poised for explosive growth."

But that serious growth has yet to happen. Why? Because elearning companies have to rely on the revenue they receive from their courses, and until now there has been nothing to prevent users from giving course content to others. And that is just not a realistic economic model. Elearning is as exposed to piracy issues as any other hi-tech supplier. And without IPR protection, far from quickly developing, the elearning market has been held back because it cannot achieve its full economic potential.

LockLizard Protector is unique in delivering DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology to the elearning marketplace with US Government strength encryption to protect course content. It is the first DRM enforcing product specifically focused at protecting an elearning company’s revenue streams. It creates the significant boost that allows this industry to establish itself as firmly as the pundits are predicting.

Elearning publishers now have a simple way to control who views their content, where, and when, and for how long. Protector’s instant revocation and expiry controls ensure the latest version of course materials are always used and customers continue paying for your content. Protector’s printing controls can limit the number of prints that can be made.

Protector controls a wide range of file types – HTML, HTM, JPG, GIF, TIF, PNG, TXT, CSV, SWF (Flash). It even has built-in PDF to HTML and DOC to HTML converters. AVI, MPG, WAV and MP3 files can be simply converted to flash to get the benefits of full protection for multimedia.

LockLizard Protector starts with entry level pricing at just $3495 for a subscription license, with perpetual and own server licenses also available.
