A panel of experts put together by Surgery Consultants of America (SCA) will detail the key elements necessary for a successful hospital/physician ambulatory surgery center joint-venture project. The presentation is one of ten segments of the Carolinas Healthcare Forum on Hospital-Physician Joint Ventures to be held February 1, 2007. The event is being hosted by McGuireWoods LLP, which, according to the American Health Lawyers Association, is the 4th largest health care law firm in the nation. It will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte, NC. Its purpose is to present the key issues and challenges faced by today's hospital-physician joint ventures.

This informative discussion, led by Caryl Serbin, President and founder of SCA, will be presented in a case study format. "In our discussion, we show how a joint venture makes sense from all viewpoints, and what is needed for success."

Speaking from the management team's standpoint, Serbin, offers concrete recommendations that hospitals, physicians, and existing ASCs can implement to ensure a successful outcome for their project.

"There are a lot of reasons a hospital board will want to structure their ASC as a joint-venture," says Raymond Shingler, Senior Vice-President and CIO of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, the hospital owner of the two centers being examined. "Higher profit margins, an expanded market share, and the ability to attract more and better doctors - these are all good arguments that can be presented to a hospital board to help them with their decision." Shingler discusses these and other items for consideration from the hospital's standpoint.

"We are delighted to have Caryl Serbin and Ray Shingler as keynote speakers," says Scott Becker, Co-chair of the McGuireWoods LLP Health Care Department, "Even if they see only this discussion, attendees will come away with a lot of useful information."

SCA is a consulting firm which specializes in the development and management of multi-specialty ambulatory surgery centers. Fort Myers, Florida (PRWeb) December 13, 2006 -- Patricia Churchwell RN BA, the Vice President of Development for Fort Myers, Florida based Surgery Consultants of American (SCA) has been named Who's Who in the Ambulatory Surgery Industry by Today's Surgicenter. Each year, the magazine honors the top ten facilities, organizations and professionals in the highly specialized field of ambulatory surgery centers.

To receive this honor, recipients are nominated by one of their peers then selected by the magazine. Churchwell was nominated by Mike Pankey, the Administrator of the ASC of Spartanburg in South Carolina. Pankey, who was named Who's Who in 2005 says, "Pat Churchwell was one of my mentors, she taught me the business. She is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of management and development - one of the best in the industry."

The magazine also recognizes excellence in the facilities that provide surgery on an outpatient basis. In the last two years, two centers that are managed by Churchwell and SCA have been named as top facilities; Surgery Center at Pelham, and ASC of Spartanburg.

"I'm thrilled to have been chosen, especially in this field where there are hundreds of worthy individuals," says Churchwell, "Its great to be included among the ranks of previous winners like Mike Pankey who nominated me and Caryl Serbin, the President of SCA." Serbin was one of the first to receive the honor in 2003.

As an early entrant into the field in 1986, Churchwell attributes her success to both the length and the breadth of her experience. She believes that her combined experiences as a staff member, manager, administrator and consultant give her a broad knowledgebase. "It's an exciting yet challenging industry. There are an unbelievable number of changes; some good and some bad. That's why it is our company's philosophy to dedicate the resources needed to stay ahead."

As a consultant with SCA, Churchwell provides development and management expertise to surgery centers nationwide. The firm specializes in multi-specialty, hospital-doctor joint venture startup centers and also provides on-going management services. They have more than 18 centers in 12 states. For more information about Churchwell, SCA and the services they provide, call 1-800-694-5808 or visit <a href="http://www.scapress.com/pr2" onclick="linkClick( this.href );" target="_blank" title="www.scapress.com/pr2">http:www.scapress.com/pr2

(PRWEB) November 8, 2006 -- Surgery Consultants of America, Inc. (SCA), a consulting firm for ambulatory surgery centers, and Surgery Center Billing, LLC (SCB) its sister company which provides billing services to surgery centers nationwide relocated their offices in June. Moving into a 10,000 sq. ft. office space, they now occupy the entire penthouse floor of a four-story office building in Fort Myers, Florida.

When Caryl Serbin, President and founder, incorporated SCA seven years ago, the company occupied a one-room, 15’ x 15’ office with two desks. Within a year and a half, the firm moved to a four-office suite and began adding employees. Soon the companies doubled their space by taking over the office next to them.

The recent move occurred two years sooner than anticipated. “We searched for a place that would last us five years, and we found the beautiful 4200 sq ft. space. But within just two years, we were stacked on top of each other again,” says Judith English, Vice President of Business Operations.

The two companies now employ over 45 people, mostly housed in their Fort Myers location. The firm also employs consultants in other states and administrators that work in the surgery centers that they manage. With more than 18 clients in 12 states, including two in Florida continued growth is anticipated.
