Each year, the magazine honors the top ten facilities, organizations and professionals in the highly specialized field of ambulatory surgery centers. To receive this honor, recipients are nominated by one of their peers then selected by the magazine. Churchwell was nominated by Mike Pankey, the Administrator of the ASC of Spartanburg in South Carolina. Pankey, who was named Who's Who in 2005 says, "Pat Churchwell was one of my mentors, she taught me the business. She is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of management and development - one of the best in the industry." The magazine also recognizes excellence in the facilities that provide surgery on an outpatient basis. In the last two years, two centers that are managed by Churchwell and SCA have been named as top facilities; Surgery Center at Pelham, and ASC of Spartanburg. "I'm thrilled to have been chosen, especially in this field where there are hundreds of worthy individuals," says Churchwell, "Its great to be included among the ranks of previous winners like Mike Pankey who nominated me and Caryl Serbin, the President of SCA." Serbin was one of the first to receive the honor in 2003. As an early entrant into the field in 1986, Churchwell attributes her success to both the length and the breadth of her experience.
