With Apple seeking trademarks for podcast related words, and the UN proposing an International Broadcast Treaty, Podcasting has moved to the forefront of international news. What started as a simple grassroots social media late in 2004 has become the center of heated debate. Yet because it is a grassroots media, it is growing steadily all over the world.

In October 2005, ABC News reported about China's Podcast Revolution among it's 60 million internet users under the age of 24. According to China Web 2.0 Review, the first Chinese Podcast Directory, Jack Gu's Podlook, had 15,000 channels and over 35,000 podcast clips back in November 2005.
